I offer cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to teens and adults. CBT focuses on adjusting our thoughts and feelings away from ideas that hurt us and toward ones that empower us. We do this through discussing, exploring, and challenging these thoughts and feelings.

Everyone has different reasons for engaging in therapy, and everyone’s response to treatment is unique. I consider this and collaborate with clients to create a therapy plan that works for their lives and needs. This collaboration takes place through nonjudgemental and compassionate conversation. I want to learn about my clients and help them set and achieve goals that make sense for their lives.

I prioritize creating a safe space for my clients. A safe space is somewhere a client feels comfortable speaking their truths, whatever they may be, and knows they will be received with empathy, compassion, and confidentiality. This is a key step in building a strong therapeutic alliance. From this place of confidence and strength, we move into deeper sessions.

I am an active advocate for attention-deficit disorder and autism spectrum disorder. I have assisted autistic individuals with high support needs. I do education and advocacy for ADHD by sharing my own experiences with the disorder and giving presentations on current research.

What problem do you strive to overcome?

Problem: It is easy to get wrapped up in our repetitive patterns, whether they have a negative or positive impact on our lives. Clients often feel unsure about whether therapy can help them meanwhile, others feel that although they need therapy, beginning the process is difficult. Solution: I prefer using a holistic and collaborative approach that explores all aspects of an individual’s cultural identity and potential. Providing a safe environment that allows individuals to freely express their values, experiences, and unique worldviews, all of which contribute to appropriate goal planning throughout their therapeutic journey. We all perceive the world from a different view, thus, our paths in life shall remain different but still true to who we are. Acknowledging and reconstructing our maladaptive habits are the first steps in distinguishing what is harmful and what can be beneficial in our lives. Result: Promoting personal growth through the development of our therapeutic relationship while ensuring clients feel safe, comfortable, welcomed, and supported. Our aim throughout sessions will emphasize increasing mindfulness towards your current self and future potential, thus, motivating personal growth.

Problem: The journey to seeking therapeutic support can feel overwhelming for many individuals. Thoughts and feelings of uncertainty, hesitation, and fear are commonly experienced by many of those who are in the beginning phases of the therapeutic process. In times of distress, we may feel burdened by the complexities of our relationships, the demands of our everyday lives, or the intensity of our emotions. We may encounter various challenges and adversities navigating and coping with these aspects of our lives. Solution: I utilize a comprehensive, culturally sensitive, and eclectic approach throughout the therapeutic process to accommodate each client’s diverse experiences, needs, and goals for therapy. Despite my eclectic perspective, I employ an individualized approach aimed at supporting clients’ autonomy, self-determination, and their current position in the healing journey. This approach facilitates adaptation to the diverse challenges and experiences encountered across the life span. Result: Healing is complex, and the therapeutic journey thrives in an environment that fosters safety and connection. I work closely with clients to develop a strong therapeutic relationship, and ensure a respectful, non judgmental, and warm environment that can help facilitate client’s self-awareness and dedication to the counselling journey. Sometimes, we second-guess ourselves and become occupied with thoughts, behaviours, and feelings that make us believe we need to be anywhere but here in the present moment. We can get lost and wonder where we are without realizing we have what we need to navigate our daily lives and be who we wish to be. Healing is holistic, and working towards homeostasis and managing stress become pivotal in building the skills necessary to regulate our emotions that impact our daily functioning.

Life is subjective, and with having an eclectic approach, I recognize that healing and self-acceptance are not a one-size-fits-all journey. Even though I am eclectic, I utilize an individualistic approach that supports the client in self-actualizing and accepting where they are in the healing process, which gives way to adapting to different challenges that life throws at us. Life ebbs and flows, which requires us to learn how to ride the waves accordingly.

The therapeutic process thrives in an environment that builds safety and connection, thus allowing the grace to walk the journey at one’s own pace. Therapy is like a dance that requires a safe place to be vulnerable enough to explore and release things that no longer serve us. Meeting you where you are is of the utmost importance. Therapy can be a delicate journey that requires a safe space to explore the things tucked away deep within ourselves and our psyches. Working with me, we hold up a lamp to the darkness and inquire curiously about what makes us who we are, and work towards re-writing the narratives that shape the stories we tell ourselves.

Reaching out to start therapy can be a daunting process. Feeling lost, confused, stuck or concerned about stress, managing a big life-changing event or relationship struggles can leave a mix of emotions that can seem difficult to manage. I provide therapy for adults who have experienced a concussion, are struggling with anxiety, self-esteem issues, relationship /communication issues, disordered eating and/or addictions. The incident of suffering a concussion is like having all the boxes in our heads that hold our coping mechanisms, our memories, and our struggles, spill out all at once. This is an overwhelming process, in addition to physical discomforts and other pending issues. It can feel like nothing makes sense. In my experience, having support from someone who has also lived through this issue is key to being able to move forward. I provide a safe, supportive environment for adults struggling with a concussion and for those who are dealing with anxiety, self-esteem issues, and communication challenges that accompany this situation. In addition, my years in the food industry have given me a unique perspective on food and nutrition, and disordered eating. I have a Bachelor of Applied Science in Food and Nutrition and am a Red Seal Chef and this particular combination in addition to my counsellor training provides a particular nuance into how I can assist. I am rooted in a strengths-based approach, while also using cognitive behavioural techniques and opening up the discussion to childhood experiences that may be at the root of anxiety, self-esteem issues or disordered eating. I offer a safe space where we will work together to create, develop and learn to implement new skills and strategies so you can be your best self. If this sounds like a place for you and you’d like to begin your healing journey with me, I offer a free consultation to see if we are a good fit. I would love to be a part of the excursion.

Here’s some more about me… *“When you change the way you look at things, the thinks you look at change” - unknown

People are taught to focus on success and ambition. There’s an assumption everyone’s goal should be responsibility, power, and money. This fast paced lifestyle can be overwhelming. When we are overwhelmed by relationships, day-to-day activities or even our emotions, we find it difficult to process and cope with things. We can feel lost or stuck with no path forward.

In life, there are no one-fit solutions. Utilizing a solution-focused approach permits you, the client, to change by creating solutions rather than focusing on problems. Your goals will concentrate on present and future circumstances while we collaboratively work towards your envisioned solutions.

Therapy thrives in a safe non-judgmental environment. It provides the opportunity to grasp the underlying causes of our circumstances and create actionable steps to resolve the issue now and prevent it from returning in the future.
