What problem do you strive to overcome?

Problem: It is easy to get wrapped up in our repetitive patterns, whether they have a negative or positive impact on our lives. Clients often feel unsure about whether therapy can help them meanwhile, others feel that although they need therapy, beginning the process is difficult. Solution: I prefer using a holistic and collaborative approach that explores all aspects of an individual’s cultural identity and potential. Providing a safe environment that allows individuals to freely express their values, experiences, and unique worldviews, all of which contribute to appropriate goal planning throughout their therapeutic journey. We all perceive the world from a different view, thus, our paths in life shall remain different but still true to who we are. Acknowledging and reconstructing our maladaptive habits are the first steps in distinguishing what is harmful and what can be beneficial in our lives. Result: Promoting personal growth through the development of our therapeutic relationship while ensuring clients feel safe, comfortable, welcomed, and supported. Our aim throughout sessions will emphasize increasing mindfulness towards your current self and future potential, thus, motivating personal growth.

Sometimes, we second-guess ourselves and become occupied with thoughts, behaviours, and feelings that make us believe we need to be anywhere but here in the present moment. We can get lost and wonder where we are without realizing we have what we need to navigate our daily lives and be who we wish to be. Healing is holistic, and working towards homeostasis and managing stress become pivotal in building the skills necessary to regulate our emotions that impact our daily functioning.

Life is subjective, and with having an eclectic approach, I recognize that healing and self-acceptance are not a one-size-fits-all journey. Even though I am eclectic, I utilize an individualistic approach that supports the client in self-actualizing and accepting where they are in the healing process, which gives way to adapting to different challenges that life throws at us. Life ebbs and flows, which requires us to learn how to ride the waves accordingly.

The therapeutic process thrives in an environment that builds safety and connection, thus allowing the grace to walk the journey at one’s own pace. Therapy is like a dance that requires a safe place to be vulnerable enough to explore and release things that no longer serve us. Meeting you where you are is of the utmost importance. Therapy can be a delicate journey that requires a safe space to explore the things tucked away deep within ourselves and our psyches. Working with me, we hold up a lamp to the darkness and inquire curiously about what makes us who we are, and work towards re-writing the narratives that shape the stories we tell ourselves.

Experience:

Harmeet is a Registered Psychotherapist Qualifying with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. Problem: The journey to seeking therapeutic support can feel overwhelming for many individuals. Thoughts and feelings of uncertainty, hesitation, and fear are commonly experienced by many of those who are in the beginning phases of the therapeutic process. In times of distress, we may feel burdened by the complexities of our relationships, the demands of our everyday lives, or the intensity of our emotions. We may encounter various challenges and adversities navigating and coping with these aspects of our lives. Solution: I utilize a comprehensive, culturally sensitive, and eclectic approach throughout the therapeutic process to accommodate each client’s diverse experiences, needs, and goals for therapy. People are taught to focus on success and ambition. There’s an assumption everyone’s goal should be responsibility, power, and money. This fast paced lifestyle can be overwhelming. When we are overwhelmed by relationships, day-to-day activities or even our emotions, we find it difficult to process and cope with things. We can feel lost or stuck with no path forward.

In life, there are no one-fit solutions. Utilizing a solution-focused approach permits you, the client, to change by creating solutions rather than focusing on problems. Your goals will concentrate on present and future circumstances while we collaboratively work towards your envisioned solutions.

Therapy thrives in a safe non-judgmental environment. It provides the opportunity to grasp the underlying causes of our circumstances and create actionable steps to resolve the issue now and prevent it from returning in the future.

What problem do you strive to overcome?

Problem:

The process of beginning therapy can generate a multitude of emotions in clients. Individuals entering the counselling environment might be hesitant to share their personal experiences and feel overwhelmed about taking this next step. Throughout our lives, we all experience a range of challenges: life transitions, relationship issues, significant periods of stress, financial hardships, the possibilities are endless! These challenges could bring about feelings of depression, anxiety, overwhelm, grief, fear, and even excitement about what is to come. Starting therapy to cope with life’s challenges may feel daunting, but can be an important step in knowing that you do not have to go through life’s ups and downs alone.

I use a holistic, culturally competent, and individualistic therapeutic approach to acknowledge each client’s unique personal background and life story. No two people are alike, and no two courses of therapy will be alike as a result. I draw from a variety of methods and perspectives to create a therapeutic journey that is personalized for each client, collaboratively designing an action plan based on their goals and experiences.

I believe that working together with my clients and getting to know their whole selves is the most important piece of successful therapy, and I strive to create a non-judgmental and open-minded space where clients can feel safe to be vulnerable and authentic to their true selves. Sometimes as humans, we are reluctant to change and growth; therefore, it is not unusual for clients to feel hesitant about starting therapy. The obstacles arise when starting therapy is observed as a form of weakness and shame, which causes clients to feel subjugated. There are many individuals entering therapeutic spaces who are fearful of being open because they do not want to be judged. There are also individuals who want their unique stories to be heard, but they dread being misunderstood. These factors can prevent clients from having an amazing therapeutic experience.

I utilize a cultural and individualistic approach that focuses on allowing my clients to feel heard and understood. Being collaborative with my clients is essential to establishing the appropriate modality for their therapeutic success. This is evident since no one is the same; every client has a different journey and unique stories to share.

My aim is to encourage my clients to use their voices as tools to strengthen their psychological framework and in time, become the best version of themselves. I will provide a safe, open, and comfortable therapeutic environment for my clients to grow and be their authentic selves.
